I Offer The Following Heartfelt Sentiment...

For Georgina's Final Major Project at university, she explored the iconic character of the 'rich b*tch', their popularity on screens, and their relationship to female empowerment.

Using quotes from real life as subtitles, Riley produced six images for her exhibition in the style of film stills.

In an article called “The Enduring Allure of the ‘Rich Bitch’” for Glamour in 2018, Christopher Rosa brings to light why we love these characters. They are “loud and unafraid to speak their mind” where as “our culture punishes women for doing the same thing” (Rosa, 2018). After conducting her research for her thesis on the use of subversion used in feminist photography, she saw the same technique used on these characters. They are all preened, and tend to wear a lot of pink, which leads to their physical appearance being very traditionally feminine, however this contrasts to the loud and audacious characters they display. Further on they say these characters are feminists, but Riley disagrees because you cannot ignore their cruelness to other women, as well as their blatant racism and homophobia.
